PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS BY COUNTY
Allegan County:
To qualify for the housing program in Allegan County, all applicants are required to provide verification that the household is homeless, is at risk of being homeless OR that an adult household member has a permanent disability.
The homeless and disability verification forms are included in our application packet. The homeless verification must be completed by a shelter or agency that provides services or temporary housing to the homeless or those who are at-risk. The MSHDA disability verification form must be completed by a licensed health care provider (Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrist, or Licensed Social Worker). All applicants must also meet program requirements and income guidelines.
Project Based Rental Assistance Program
Income limits for apartments with Project Based Rental Assistance are based on the number of persons in the household. Project-Based recipients are required to contribute 30% of their income for rent, and pay their own gas and electric utilities. The MSHDA Project-Based Voucher Program pays the rest of the rent.
Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program
The Housing Credit Program is an affordable housing program for individuals and families on fixed or lower incomes. This program is not a subsidized housing program and income limits for these apartments are higher. Each resident is responsible for the full amount of rent each month, plus pay their own utilities.
As of January 01, 2024 rent for these apartments are: one-bedroom $405/mo., two-bedroom $493/mo. (West Fennville $523/mo.), three-bedroom $538/mo.

Project Based Rental Assistance Program
For an apartment with income-based rent in Ottawa County, you would have to provide verification of permanent disability.
